You’re hired! Apprenticeship helps Dan build a better future
Lord Sugar and his boardroom antics aren’t just classic TV moments though. They’re also inspiration for real-life projects that BIG has funded.
Take for example 28-year-old Daniel Adams from Tonypandy in Wales. Unemployed since last Christmas, he was lacking confidence and getting more and more worried about how to support his family.
But all that changed when he beat off stiff competition from six other unemployed people in Rhondda Cynon Taff, all finalists in The Real Apprentice – You’re Hired competition.
Funded with a £50,000 The People’s Millions grant, The Real Apprentice was set up by Construction Industry Trust for Youth to help young people in south Wales get a big break in life, in the form of an apprenticeship in the construction industry. The project’s based on the TV show, and gives training opportunities for 12 young people to renovate two houses from start to finish.
Daniel was thrilled to discover he’d won and gained the chance to study for an apprenticeship at a training academy in Caerphilly. Well done Daniel!
