7 January 2009

A very happy new year to all followers of the Big Thinking blog.

We have until 27 February to hear your views about how the Big Lottery Fund can make its most effective contribution to improving the lives of communities and those most in need.

Over the next seven weeks or so, we will be hosting events across the UK where some of you will have the chance to engage with us face to face. We hope you will also post your questions and thoughts here, or via our Facebook Group “Big Mouth”. One way or another, we want the debate with you to culminate in your filling in as little or as much of the consultation questionnaire as you feel minded to complete. It is simple to do and can be accessed via this website.

Strangely for me, I have a whole week in London. I’ve spent the first part of it catching up on emails in advance of hitting the road. I’ve also been active in my role as one of the judges for this year’s 2009 GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT awards, designed, in partnership with the King’s Fund, to recognise and reward charities that are doing excellent work to improve people’s health. This has been intriguing for me because normally mere officers at the Big Lottery Fund spend most of our time generating the assessments on which our non-executives make funding decisions.

So it was great, for once, to be able to offer some views myself. Results will become clear later this year.
