A Big Moment for grandparents

16 December 2015

Back in July, we heard from Grandparents Plus, one of the projects to receive funding from us.

They received funds to increase the support of their Grandparents Plus Support Network for the wider family raising children.tea-and-cake2-blog

Grandparents Plus is also working in partnership with two leading family charities, Family Lives and the Family and Childcare Trust, to support kinship carers in North East England through the Relative Experience Project which is funded by our Silver Dreams Fund.

The Relative Experience team at Grandparents Plus, shared with us their Big Moment of 2015:

“The project’s big moment of 2015 was seeing Alice Taylor, a volunteer, being recognised for her commitment to the project. She received the ‘volunteer of the year’ award from North Tyneside Voluntary Organisations Development Agency in October.

Alice was first involved with the Relative Experience project in 2012 as a kinship carer who was in need of support. She described her experience with the project as ‘life changing’ and as a result of the positive impact the project had on her life she went on to become a volunteer. She now supports other kinship carers through one-to-one support as well as running a support group.

Next year the project is looking forward to celebrating its 100th befriending pairing and, continuing to reach more kinship carers, like Alice, to ensure they receive the vital support they so desperately need.”

A great year for the team at Grandparents Plus seeing the positive effects of their work, but how has your year been? Let us know your Big Moment of the year by using our hashtag #BigMoment on Twitter and Facebook.
